The Borough Council have a number of sets of equipment available for loan to villages, schools, community organizations etc. The loan period is usually free of charge for six months which enables a local group to form and buy its own equipment. It is popular in villages because the equipment fits into even the smallest village hall. Individual bowlers do not need their own equipment making it a very inexpensive sport. The game can be played and enjoyed by everyone - young and old, men and women. It is a very sociable game, great fun and easy to learn. The area has a number of wheelchair players and players with a variety of disabilities who can compete equally with able bodied players at all levels. Carpet Bowls is a family game too and often teams will contain grandchildren playing with grandparents and husbands and wives playing and so on. Almost anybody from a village or local community can participate |
